COVID 19 Updates for AGC

June 2020

Our dear people,

As we look forward to the reopening of our church after nearly three months of pandemic shutdown, there are certain precautions that must be taken. The pandemic is not over and we do not know how long it will last. To minimize dangers to health while making the church available, the following procedures are in place, and are subject to change based on the course of the pandemic and our experience with these plans:

It is most important that everyone realize that those who are vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus or think they might have been infected or are concerned about gathering in groups for any reason related to the pandemic not attend Sunday service. Due to the required distancing, our buildings may not accommodate those who wish to attend Sunday service. If comfortable, some people might consider attending our online Sunday and Wednesday live stream. Despite our efforts, we cannot insure that we have an absolutely safe environment.

  • The church will reopen on Sunday, June 14 at 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. This service will be a mock service only to review with members the church’s plan of action for conducting service.

  • The church will reopen for morning worship for members and the public on Sunday, June 21 at 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.

For those who choose to attend Sunday service, please note the following procedures begin June 14 and June 21 details are subject to change:
    • Due to the recommended distancing, there will be no 10 am Grace to Grow leadership class or youth Sunday school in the church until further notice. Members can attend a live stream of the leadership class and Wednesday night Bible enrichment each week on Sundays and Wednesdays.
    • Designated parking lot staff will be on the grounds to assist families with parking and entering the church sanctuary.
    • Members attending are asked to remain in the foyer as they arrive to have their temperature checked by designated church staff and be directed to a sitting area.
    • Seats that are roped off in the church are not available for seating. Those who arrive together (e.g. families) may sit together. All others should maintain a six foot distance from others. If possible bring your own hand sanitizer. ALL MEMBERS AND VISITORS AS WELL AS CHURCH STAFF MUST WEAR FACE MASKS. Gloves are encouraged.
    • Once the church is at capacity, the doors will be closed and others may: attend our online live stream via Facebook for viewing at home or outside the church in cars via smart phones.
    • Offering will be conducted by designated staff who will collect from each family or individual who would like to give an offering. Offerings can also be given through the Givelify app.
    • Visitor cards, booklets and paper products have been removed from the building. Those who benefit from the church announcements can review them via the screens in the church or on the ministry website.
    • Ushers will maintain and enforce all policies that have been put in place by the church.

It is our goal to continue maintaining the highest standards of safety for our members and community and we will continue this during this health crisis. We are committed to providing a clean, sanitary and safe environment for people to meet and worship God.

We will continue our already-thorough cleaning procedures. This includes a comprehensive cleaning of all restrooms and various touch points (doorknobs, handles, water faucets, handrails, etc.) and a professional cleaning of the sanctuary. In addition, our facility staff continually cleans between each service.

Your ongoing encouragement and support, both spiritually and financially, are most encouraging. We are taking small steps this week with gratitude for each other and all the graces given by God.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact the church at (919) 736-0911 or submit your questions via our website.

Thank you,

Pastor James R. Powell
